Executive Director - Marta Rubin Kiesling

Marta Rubin Kiesling joins the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter as Executive Director, with a deep background as a nonprofit leader, and as a consultant and attorney in the for-profit corporate, investment, and legal environments. 

In the nonprofit arena, Ms. Kiesling was Founder and Executive Director of Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown, PA, providing experiential learning and arts access in an economically distressed, culturally diverse community. During her tenure, Ms. Kiesling was awarded the Rotary Citizen of the Year Award and the YMCA Tribute to Exceptional Women, and the organization was awarded the Tri-County Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Award. 

Most recently, Ms. Kiesling served as a nonprofit consultant, and was the first Chief Operations Officer of the Philadelphia Film Society (the Prince Theater, PFS Roxy Theater, the Philadelphia Film Festival, and a range of community education and outreach programs).

Prior to her nonprofit roles, Ms. Kiesling was Senior Consultant/Benefits Attorney with the Philadelphia office of Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a global benefits firm and subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan (now, Marsh, NYSE:MMC). While at Mercer, Ms. Kiesling was a key collaborator in developing a nationally recognized health and group compliance/risk management practice and was a core team member of a multi-disciplinary HIPAA administration simplification team that served as a model for other regional units within the organization.

Formerly, Ms. Kiesling was Vice President/Benefits Counsel for Delaware Group (Delaware Management Company, Inc., Delaware Investment Advisors, and the Delaware Group of Funds (subsequently Lincoln Financial Group and now a subsidiary of the Macquarie Group). While at Delaware Group, Ms. Kiesling provided legal advice on a full range of retail, wholesale, and individualized corporate retirement plan products and coordinated the policies and procedures for Delaware Group’s newly formed trust company.

Ms. Kiesling began her legal career as an Associate with the Philadelphia-based law firm of Pepper, Hamilton and Scheetz (now Pepper Hamilton, LLP).

Ms. Kiesling holds a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center (cum laude) where she served as a law clerk at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now Wilmer Hale), and represented youth offenders in the Washington, D.C. court system. She received a B.A. in Sociology and in American Studies from Dickinson College (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Senior Prize in Sociology), which included serving as a counselor for addicted and abused youth, and as a counselor at a battered women’s shelter.

In addition to her professional and academic background, Ms. Kiesling has vast production and performance experience with concerts, operettas, plays, and musicals. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Pottstown Foundation focusing on education and workforce development, and of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the Ocean City Pops.

Ms. Kiesling is married to William G. Kiesling, General Counsel at CSS Industries in Plymouth Meeting, PA (NYSE: CSS), who is also a director, singer, and actor, and is the proud mom to Matt Kiesling (an actor, dancer, director, and writer in NYC) and Michael Kiesling (a tenor vocalist studying opera performance at Westminster Choir College).
