Graduation Speaker's Courage and Determination

After doctors diagnosed Michael McGinn with Lou Gehrig's disease 19 months ago, his priorities changed.

His house and car, his motorcycle, his income from his job as a senior regulatory scientist at Merck & Co., all these trappings of the good life became less important.

"I based my success on material items," McGinn said. "Since ALS, none of that matters. The one important thing is people."
